Trauma Prayer in Franklin, TN

Trauma Prayer is a prayer technique that helps heal childhood trauma. The trauma prayer can be used with long-term, difficult-to-heal conditions - especially for conditions that have not been healed from past prayers, counseling, or medical interventions.

Prayer

Any hurt or wound, physical or emotional, can be experienced as trauma. Further, you can be traumatized through negative emotions you feel such as fear, agony, hurt, and much more. The more ways you experience trauma, the more ingrained trauma becomes, and it affects you in your daily life.

Trauma can also affect your five physical senses: touch, sight, sound, smell, and taste. For example, if you experienced a car accident, you may feel the physical pain of the accident (Touch); you may hear the sounds of the screeching tires of the crash (Sound); you may see the accident as it happens (Sight); you may smell the gas or oil spilling (smell). In this example, you have experienced 3 or 4 physical sensations and layers of trauma. On top of the physical senses, you have impacted emotions, maybe fear or terror as you crash, experience the shock, anxiety after the accident occurred, perhaps confusion. All of these are layers of trauma. Because trauma can affect all these senses; it’s important to address the place where the trauma occurred and deal with forgiveness, strongholds, and the trauma itself.

Cellular Memory Trauma

Whenever you have trauma your cells absorb that trauma and it affects you emotionally or physically. The human body has an estimated 37.2 Trillion cells (PubMed/NCBI) and these cells make up your skin, muscles, bone tissue, organs, and even bacteria. There are roughly 200 different types of cells in the human body and around 20 different cell structures. These cells have memory and, when trauma is not processed correctly, can retain the negative emotions, and it could wreak havoc. This can produce physically and emotionally unhealed areas of your soul and body.

For example, when you experience a traumatic event, often this event is stored in the right side of the brain, where you experience and store emotion, and the left side of the brain, the reasoning side, doesn’t experience the event at all, giving you no concept of time or history. Similarly, if the event happened before the age of 12, you only process that event through the right side of your brain as you have not developed the necessary ability to process with both sides of your brain. As an adult, you can move beyond it in our mind but as a child, you cannot. There’s no moving on as there are no reasoning skills to equip you to do that.

How Trauma Prayer Works

The type of Trauma Prayer that TalkDr Christian Counseling uses was developed by Craig Miller, a counselor who has practiced for over 40 years, ministering to those with lingering health issues related to trauma. Craig’s experience with his own miraculous physical healing deepened his passion to help people receive their own healing and restoration through teaching, imparting, and ministering about the love and healing power of Jesus. Craig ministers to the spirit and soul (mind, will, and emotions) for God to identify the root causes that trauma has helped block healing to bring restoration to challenging physical or emotional conditions and broken relationships.

When you have an injury, emotional hurt, or any type of trauma event there is always an emotional response. If you do not release that emotion from that injury, hurt, or traumatic event, the brain will bury (suppress) the hurtful emotion. As a result, suppressed emotion becomes stored throughout the body areas such as cells, muscles, tendons, and body systems which create a weakened state of functioning. This makes the body more susceptible to illness and less capable or receptive to healing. In addition, the unresolved emotion from the hurtful event becomes trapped in your soul; which can lock the original physical or emotional trauma in the body or mind. This can block the physical hurt from healing. As a result, one of the best ways to open a pathway to healing is to reveal and release the unhealthy emotion.

What other PTSD treatment program does TalkDr Christian Counseling provide?

TalkDr Christian Counseling utilizes a variety of approaches for the treatment of PTSD. Below are some examples:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Talk therapy (psychotherapy) is when you work with mental health counselor in a structured way, attending a limited number of sessions. CBT helps you become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking so you can view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them in a more effective way.

  • Group Therapy: Your sessions take place either alone with a counselor or in a group with others. This freedom to choose is a defining feature of our trauma treatment program. We also make use of cognitive-behavioral therapy in your treatment. This is because survivors often develop negative thinking patterns as coping mechanisms.

  • Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR): While used for PTSD, EMDR is also useful for complex trauma treatment. This treatment records positive shifts in as little as 3-12 treatment sessions.

  • Prolonged Exposure (PE): This form of PTSD therapy teaches individuals to gradually approach their trauma-related memories, feelings and situations. They presumably learn that trauma-related memories and cues are not dangerous and do not need to be avoided.
